WSHSO members at Catskills Irish Arts Week

August 3, 2012

Lots of WSHSO members attended the 18th Annual Catskills Irish Arts Week, July 15-21, in East Durham, NY.  Only about 2 hours drive north of NYC, this fantastic festival is right in our proverbial back yard.  Here’s a few pictures of WSHSO members in action!

WSHSO multi-instrumentalist Don Meade taught banjo and harmonica. He also performed in concerts and ceili bands, led sessions and hosted one of the evening concerts.

WSHSO fiddle player Adam Cole-Mullen was in good company here, playing (or was he sleeping?) in one of the after-hours sessions.  Many of these sessions continued until dawn.

WSHSO members Liz Albertson, Suzanne Grossman, and Linda Mason Hood shared a house in the Catskills with Lauren Weintraub Stoebel, WSHSO flute player who moved away several years ago.  Together with Lauren’s and Liz’s husbands, they enjoyed some scrumptious meals.

… as well as some great music.  The shot below was taken after the session at Stack’s Pub.

The craic is always good in the Catskills! Thanks to CIAW’s director, Paul Keating, for doing his bit to keep the tradition alive.  If you’d like to read more about the this year’s Catskills Irish Arts Week, check out Paul’s recent article on the Irish Central website:  Catskills Irish Arts week thrives in its 18th year.
